Below you will find my selfie portraits drawn by pencil and pen.
Jean Michel Basquiat was a Brooklyn artist, poet, and musician during the late 1970's. His art is often associated with Neo- Expressionism. His signature art style can be distinguish through the excessive scribbling, symbols, and diagrams. This art he created resembled very much child like art. Basquiat would often incorporate, his Haitian and Puerto Rican heritage.

Since Basquiat was a black and up coming artist in a art world where there was predominantly only white artist, many only saw him as a black artist not just a simple artist. Some years into being an artist Jean Michel Basquiat met Andy Warhol . Through the course of their friendship they created many different art pieces together. Andy Warhol was the superstar of Pop Art, with his style of art and Basquiat's, they would often create a combination of both. The assignment for the art pieces of the right were inspired by such collaboration amongst the two. I took the BMW logo and made it my own, I did this in a very simple way, instead of the BMW letter I did my own initials. Another thing I did was change the colors of blue and white to my favorite colors, pink and white with a gold outlining.

Through getting familiar with Basquiat's style of painting, my art classmates got the chance to choose a painting of a self portrait done by another artist. I choose a self portrait of my favorite artist Frida Khalo. In this painting (shown on the right) I tried coping the way Basquiat wrote on his painting and would often cross them out he often did this to emphasize a word. The words I chose to add on my art was Culture and Love. I also made her flower crown a bit messier than the self portrait Frida made of herself.

In order to become more familiar to Basquait's stye of painting, we created one of his paintings, I chose this one because I felt I could mimic the way he used his brush stoke so differently that did an excellent way in helping emphasize what he ultimately wanted to . On the right there is the recreation I did of his art.

My phrase derives from my name initials, Ximena Velasco. I chose "xtremly vocal" because I like to express any thoughts very often and am very passionate on them.
